Federico Baschirotto’s header inside the box gave Leece the lead, and Federico Di Francesco quickly doubled it. Zapata, though, gave Atalanta a goal right before halftime.
Despite having opportunities in the second half, Atalanta could not capitalize on them. Leece played strong defense to get three points.
With 27 points, Atalanta is tied for fifth place with Inter Milan and Lazio in the league standings. With 26 points, Jose Mourinho’s Roma are sixth in the standings. Napoli, who are now in first place with 38 points, keep winning games. AC Milan, the defending champion, are still eight points behind.
Atalanta placed seventh last season, outside of the European spots.

Ivan Gazidis, the CEO of AC Milan, will depart the organization on December 5. The Italian team made its announcement on Wednesday. In 2018, while the team was through a lot of instability, Gazidis joined the current reigning champs.
According to Milan’s official statement, “Gazidis joined AC Milan as CEO in December 2018 and has guided the Club through a time of growth and modernization both on and off the field.”
